365- Day 29

A mini pinch pot!  So I have 2 kids is clay that are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead!  So I had to get out the polymer clay (love it).  When I used to teach clay regularly we would make these and sell them at the school winter concert.  They loved making them and today was no exception.  I love making them too!!!

Here is two views of the pot I created, minus the mica powder that I am going to put on before I bake it!  Oh and its only 2 inches tall!!!!

Enjoy!

365-Day 28

I waited until Monkey was in the tub before starting day 28's art.  I decided to do a smaller version of family with an R. Well Monkey got out of the tub and I went into the other room and came back to find Monkey doing her best to fix my art!!!  So instead of stopping her I tell her go to town.  I truly love watching her draw, she gets so into it!  It reminds me of why I became an art teacher and a mother!  Maybe she will be an artist someday............wait she already is!!!

Enjoy!

365- Day 26-27

This was a two day project.  I was very busy yesterday and got it started but finished today, and still it took a while.  It is a bit zentangle like, but with a white silhouette of the word family.  I like it, I will have to create more.  I used black and gray brush pens and LOVED them.  I have had them forever and barely used them until today!

Enjoy!

364- Day 24 and 25

So here are day 24 and 25.  The top R is day 24 I did some quilling to create an illuminated letter.  Not supper happy with it, but it was a good first try.  I will review it later.
The second is a collage with wax, my new favorite material!  I also used a photo of 4 generation when I was a baby, yes that is me.  The stencil is an image you have seen before.

Enjoy!

PS The kids in my classes are having a good time helping and watching what I create!  They can't wait to see what I do each day!  What a great teachable moment!

Assessing student art

I love teaching!  I hate grading!  Sometimes its not about an A or B, its about the process!!!!  Art is very subjective, so I have to make my objectives very clear when I start a project.   There is always a "check list" on the board on how to get an A!  When I had smaller classes I would give lots of written feedback, tons.  Now, I give lots of verbal feedback, which won't ever stop.

This semester I have a great bunch of Drawing I kids, a bit talkative, but a great bunch.   I really want to push them, so even though I give them verbal feedback all the time I am going to give them written feedback with every project.  Just a quick little assessment on how they are doing.  A wow and a work harder on sheet.  I found it on Jessica Balsley's website (she has a free ebook, its geared more for elem. art but it works for HS too).  So I created a little not on Photoshop and thought I would share it with you to use!

PS- Yesterday art is scanned at home sitting on my desktop......will post later!!!!

365- Day 23

Yesterday I hit a road block, Monkey didn't think I needed to do anything but play with her on our snowday and yesterday I just didn't know what to do.  I started a book.....didn't like it so I created a bracelet out of cardboard.  By the end of the day I didn't like it, so I put it away for the night.  When I arrived to school this morning I really liked it!  Once I photographed it a REALLY liked it!

So here it is.........Enjoy!

365-Day 21

Yesterday Monkey and I went downstairs to create art!  She ended up in her old baby swing....it was actually quite cute, however I was a little worried she would break it.  I decided to try cutting out one of my stencil designs I created for a church on cardstock.  Using the cutting machine was a bit of a challenge......I had to cut it a few times and it still didn't cut exactly as neatly as a circut would cut, but it worked.  I than stamped it and added a bit of glazing of color to it.  There are about 5 different stamps and 3 different colors on the tile.  I love how it turned out, I may have to do more!

Enjoy!

365- Day 19

SNOW DAY!  3-6 inches- more like 8-10!  We got tons of snow today!!!  Our first snow day of the year!  A little late, but its here!  Once Monkey went down for her nap I put my snowmobile boots on and went out into the fresh air to take pictures.  Here they are!  I couldn't decide on just one so I did a story board from the Coffeeshop Blog, one of my favorite sites!!!

This is also the image I am used for my MCP Actions Project 12- this month is Resolution.  My resolution this year is to do 365 days of art!  So here is day 19 of my resolution so far so good!!!

365-Day 18

Today I created a piece of art for my daughter....Monkey.  This is piece really turned out great!  I loved creating it!  I found a profile picture from last month, printed it out and transferred it to black paper.  I than created a black and white collage behind it.  I used an old page from an Encyclopedia from 1955, that I have, luckily I still had the H!  The background is one of my own tessellations with a thin layer of gesso.  This is something I should put on Etsy and sell custom silhouette collages!!!!

Enjoy, I can't wait to put this in Monkey's room!

365-Day 17

Day has been a strange day- strange in the way that I don't feel well, but I don't feel bad, I just feel like I am in a fog, a quiet fog....which for those of you who know me, know that I am not a quiet person.  157 days until due date!  Yeah for apps......I think, I don't know if I really need a count down until the day I am supposed to have the baby, but oh well, it gives me some good facts.
I decided to take a project from my Plaster Studio book by Stephanie Lee and Judy Wise.  I love the book, it has some great ideas I can work into my art and my classes!  This was an entire day project, which really intrigued my classes, lots of questions!!!  I love those moments.  Now that I have done this method once, I will put more of me into it!

Enjoy, it was one of my favorite so far!

365-Day 16

Today I felt like painting, so I drew a bit of the still life that my J-term student set up and than painting it using acrylic and gel medium.  I wasn't happy with it, too boring so I added some mulberry paper!

365- Day 15

Monday, Monday. la la la la la!  Monday meetings.......shhhhhh don't tell I did this during one of them.......

365- Days 13 and 14 - The Weekend!

The weekend came, the weekend went.  I have been slaking on taking photos as of late, so I devoted the weekend to photography!  Lots of photos taken of Monkey and daddy in the snow!  She drove daddy on her snowmobile and would only pull him on the sled.......that was a site!  I also made Dennis's fav- peanut clusters!  So I had some food in there as well!

Enjoy!

365- Day 12

Camouflage.  Create or alter something so that it disappears into its background.  That is what the book says to do.........so as I set at my desk, working on the new art room blog, I can see out one of my many drafty windows to the large pine trees that block the high school from the outer-world.....  There are very peaceful snowflakes slowly falling (which is MUCH better than the gusts of wind and we had yesterday) and the trees are covered in white.  Winter is finally here!  So, I decided to draw the top of the smallest tree and place it on the window so it blends in to the trees outside.  The picture isn't the greatest, but you get the picture!

365-Day 11

Day 11-  I am always inspired by what my students are doing in class, if I wouldn't do the project why should I have them do the project!  Today we drew bottles- lots of bottles!  Something that they just LOVE to do.........(where's my sarcasm font when I need it)!  I however do love to draw bottles.....strange but I do!  For me it is a challenge, something to keep my in practice of drawing what I see, although I am completely tired of drawing the same bottles, I think I need to start a new search for interesting bottles!!!  So I did a mini drawing of bottles with my Drawing I class.  I will do one tomorrow with my Drawing and Design class, not for my daily art, just because.

PS- It is still snowing and students are still whining about not being 2 hours late and now not getting out early!  Oh welcome to Iowa winter!!!!  Its finally HERE!

The Missing Days

So, here are my missing days of art work from day 6-9.  Because I was a bit under the weather, I did rework 2 pieces....changed a few things.  Worked on an old photo I took this fall that I didn't do anything to....you know easy stuff!!!  The final one I did on Tuesday was a mini collage using some metal, inks and a charm I had stuffed away to use for a rainy day!

365-Day 5

365-Day 4

So my neighbor down the hall and a wonderful blogger asked me to create a button for her- so I decided that today's piece of art was going to be to make my own button for my website!!!!  So here it is!  Hopefully it will inspire people to do the same!

365- Day 3

So I forgot to take a photo yesterday of my piece of art- I used the book- Create something out of paper, but you can't draw on it, use scissors or glue.  So I used newspaper, liquid watercolor, air dry clay, sticks, and string, no glue, no scissors.

The image I had in my head and the piece of art that came out was not the same, but after putting it away over night, I don't mind it!

Also, most of my classes know I am creating 365 pieces of art and I think they think I am insane!  But, I also think they are a bit intrigued by my what I am going to come up with!

365- Day 2

So today's theme from the book is to create a piece of art inspired by our favorite animal......for me that was my dog Sniper, who now is with another family chasing chickens everyday!  I was not only inspired by a dog, but I used some techniques out of the book Art at the Speed of Life- which I LOVE!

So, here is day 2- The House that Sniper Built

365- Day 1

Ok, so as you all know, I am going to do 365 days of art!!!  Of course I will probably have to take a bit of maternity leave at the end of June.....depending on how long labor is!!!!  So I started on Jan 2 instead of Jan 1st, leap year!!!

Art day 1- a little robot-  I am going to have my classes make zentangle robots so I figured I should make one myself.  This one I will have to do again because 1- it was fun and 2- I didn't do the greatest job!!!

So here it is.......Bob the robot!!!
